About Us
The Vermont Children’s Trust Foundation promotes the well-being of children and families in Vermont by raising funds for community-based prevention programs. Funds are granted to programs that meet the following outcomes:
- Infants and children thrive
- Children are ready for and succeed in school
- Children live in stable, supported families
- Youth choose healthy behaviors
The programs supported by VCTF work to prevent physical and emotional abuse, substance abuse, school failure, and violence, and help ensure that every child in Vermont has a fair chance for success. Examples of programs include:
- After-school and out-of-school programs
- Preschool programs
- Literacy initiatives
- Parenting education
- Mentoring programs
- Substance abuse prevention programs
How does it work? The Foundation raises money through a variety of ways, such as our annual fundraising event, The Polar Express™, a fall newsletter mailing that includes our annual appeal letter, corporate outreach, grant writing and by building relationships with people who have an affinity for our mission. The private money raised by the Foundation is contributed to the Vermont Children’s Trust Fund, a fund managed by the State.
In addition to the Foundation’s contribution, the Fund receives money through state allocation, federal juvenile justice and delinquency prevention money, and 100% of the money donated through the CTF Tax Check-off on line 29 B of the Vermont State Income Tax forms.
An average of $350,000 is granted annually from the Fund to primary prevention programs throughout the state. Programs that meet our guidelines are invited to submit requests for grants for review.
