Parent Café – Healthy Lamoille Valley under the fiscal agency of the Lamoille Family Center would like to partner to create a series of parent cafes to address issues impacting youth in our region that contribute to substance abuse. This program would allow us to create a model of 8 parent cafes focused on providing parents of 5th -9th grade students the skills to have meaningful conversations around protective factors based on the Youth Thrives/Strengthening Families model to prevent substance abuse. Topics will include parental connections, NEAR Sciences and what it means for parents, youth brain development, youth resilience, youth relationships 101, local supports for parents of teens, substances 101 and stress management.

Reducing isolation, building social connections, and developing parenting and healthy living skills are key strategies to strengthening families and reducing the risk of child abuse and neglect. The Family Center has a long history of implementing those strategies through a variety of individual and group based services. We will expand our services by adding three ongoing group based activities: •Monthly Food First: Healthy Eating group (focused on meal planning and cooking), •Monthly Self First: Healthy Living group (focused on self-care and wellness) and •Quarterly Parent Café (focused on developing leadership while addressing parenting and family issues).
